Ideas Roadshow was founded in 2012 by Howard Burton, who holds a PhD in theoretical physics and an MA in philosophy, and was the Founding Executive Director of Canada’s Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics from 1999-2007. During his time at PI, Howard also developed an extensive outreach programme for teachers and students to offer them unique behind-the-scenes insights into the world of research. A strong believer in the importance of education, Howard passionately embraces the unique combination of academic rigour and critical thinking represented by the IB Diploma Programme.
Co-founder Irena Burton has a background in law and teaching and has been extensively involved in the development of Ideas Roadshow’s innovative, award-winning databases for different audiences.
All video resources have been developed from in-depth filmed conversations with more than 80 world-leading experts, including 3 Nobel Laureates, in our effort to connect the Diploma Programme with the fascinating world of research.
Students will be exposed to the diversity and richness of different international perspectives from experts from around the world who all come from different backgrounds and cultures.
Our wide array of resources have been carefully edited for different audiences, with separate portals developed for academics, the general public and high schools (general and IB). We have received significant endorsements for both: Harvard University selected Ideas Roadshow’s Academic Portal as their Featured Resource in 2017, while Ideas Roadshow was the recipient of The Educational Learning Resources Award at the 2018 London Book Fair International Excellence Awards for the Academic Portal, High School Portal and Public Library Portal. The judges specifically expressed their enthusiasm for how Ideas Roadshow has made top-level research concepts accessible through innovative digital formats to a wide range of audiences. We have a separate website with further details for academic, public and high school librarians and the general public, here.
