Ideas Roadshow was founded in 2012 by Dr. Howard Burton, who holds a PhD in theoretical physics and an MA in philosophy, and was the Founding Executive Director of Canada’s Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics from 1999-2007. During this time, Howard also developed an extensive outreach programme for teachers and students to offer them unique behind-the-scenes insights into the world of research. A strong believer in the importance of education, Howard passionately embraces the unique combination of academic rigour and critical thinking represented by the IB Diploma Programme. Co-founder Irena Burton has a background in law and teaching and has been extensively involved in the development of Ideas Roadshow’s innovative databases.
All Ideas Roadshow resources have been developed from extensive filmed conversations with a broad selection of the world’s top experts, including two Nobel Laureates, across a wide range of subject areas. Each conversation typically lasts between 2 and 3 hours and combines scholarly insights, personal perspectives and research culture.
Our wide array of resources have been carefully edited for different audiences, with separate portals developed for academics and the general public. We have received significant endorsements for both: Harvard University selected Ideas Roadshow’s Academic Portal as their Featured Resource in 2017, while Ideas Roadshow was the recipient of The Educational Learning Resources Award at the 2018 London Book Fair International Excellence Awards for the Academic Portal, High School Portal and Public Library Portal. The judges specifically expressed their enthusiasm for how Ideas Roadshow has made top-level research concepts accessible to a variety of audiences.
In late 2017, our enthusiasm for the IB Diploma Programme and extensive consultation within the IB community, directly led us to the strategic decision to return to our extensive bank of footage and create a new IBDP Portal featuring an extensive collection of unique, tailor-made video and print resources for the IB Diploma Programme. Ideas Roadshow’s IBDP Portal received an enthusiastic reception from IB educators and students around the world.
